The gold domes above Shipka: a Russian-style church (1902) to the dead of the 1877–78 war, with 17 bells.

Built with donations from Russia and Bulgaria in the style of 17th-century Moscow churches, it has a 53 m bell tower and a largest bell of 12 tonnes. The crypt holds the bones of some 9,000 Russian and Bulgarian soldiers. Outside is a park with views over the valley; inside, mosaics and an iconostasis of 34 icons.

Good to know:

Cover shoulders and knees. There is a liturgy on Sunday mornings.

13 km from Kazanlak; the Kazanlak–Shipka bus stops in the town centre, a 10-minute walk uphill.
