A 4th-century BC tomb with the famous funeral-feast murals, on the UNESCO list since 1979. Visitors enter the exact replica beside it.

Found by chance in 1944 while soldiers dug a trench, this is Bulgaria's best-known Thracian monument. The domed chamber is only 3.25 m high, but its murals of a Thracian ruler's funeral feast, with his wife, chariots and servants, are the finest Hellenistic painting in the country. The original is sealed to protect its microclimate; a 1:1 replica with faithfully reproduced murals stands 30 m away, and you can see the entrance of the original from outside.

Good to know:

Combine with the Kulata ethnographic complex at the foot of the hill. Entry is free on the last Monday of each month.

A 15-minute walk from the centre up through Tyulbeto park (108 steps), or drive to the park's car park.
