The concrete 'flying saucer' of the Bulgarian Communist Party (1981): sealed inside, astonishing outside, with a view over the whole Balkan range.

The House-Monument was built on the site of the first socialist congress (1891) and abandoned after 1989. Entering is forbidden and dangerous; since 2025 a conservation project worth over €3.5 million is adding a new roof and windows. The outside is open at any time. Parts of the mosaics can be seen through the openings, and a digital model shows the whole interior.

Good to know:

Windy and cold even in July. Go early or at sunset. The Buzludzha hut next to the monument serves food.

30 km from Kazanlak: up to the Shipka pass, then 12 km east along the ridge. Paved but narrow; often closed by snow in winter.
